Peony Flowering Period

Peonies typically bloom from mid-April to mid-May each year, lasting approximately 20 to 30 days. Due to the rich variety of cultivars, flowering periods vary significantly between varieties. For example, the early-flowering variety "Zhaofen" (Zhaofen) begins to bloom in early April, while medium-flowering varieties like "Luoyanghong" (Luoyanghong) reach peak bloom in mid-April, and the late-flowering variety "Doulv" (Doulv) doesn't bloom until late April or even early May.

In addition to the variety, regional environment also significantly influences the flowering period of peonies. In traditional peony-growing areas such as Luoyang, Henan, and Heze, Shandong, favorable climate and fertile soil ensure healthy peonies and a relatively stable flowering period. In southern China, however, the shorter winter low temperatures make it difficult for peonies to meet their vernalization needs, potentially delaying their flowering.
